Stag Studios is the first and largest established professional recording & rehearsal complex here in Witham, Essex. Situated conveniently just off the A12 makes us easily accessible from the North & South. We are close to the town centre making us ideally situated.
Our facility is in excess of 4000sq/ft & contains at the heart a Pro-Tools/Mackie 56-Track Audio suite (Plus 100+ Tracks of Midi), coupled to a 260sq/ft Live Area capable of a comfortable full band setup. See our equipment page for a peek at our main gear.
Our control room and live area for recording has been specifically designed by professional acoustic consultants to give the best possible shape for recording live instruments, mixing & mastering. Our Auralex™ acoustic treatment has been carefully installed to fine tune the rooms as an extra layer onto the already treated walls; this treatment is specific to our room shape & structure.

All our four Rehearsal Studios are of a premium standard. They are acoustically ‘tuned’ using our custom design, special dense acoustic panels to give a great mix of your live sound wherever you stand, allowing you to hear what you are playing & improve on your music. Each studio is isolated from the next one & soundproofed to a very high standard with ‘floating’ rooms. This means you won’t have to listen to the band ‘jam’ next door while you are trying to concentrate on your session!
For the musician(s) this is the most enjoyable part and yet the simplest, you only have to know your music. We offer guidance & advice to ensure you get the best from your session(s). This will be explained in detail prior to your session, but quite simply you come in & enjoy the experience.
For us, capturing the sound & performance correctly is the most essential part of the process. Too often we hear ‘you can fix it in the mix’. This isn’t strictly true; the absolute best way to get the right sound is to capture it right in the first place. We at prefer to ‘enhance it in the mix!’
We do have the technology & skills to replace drum sounds or re-tune those vocals. In fact we could stitch together a whole tune given the bare essential ‘notes’ if we wanted to, but we use these tools for what they are meant for & not an excuse for recording it badly in the first place.
Stag Studios take a different, more refreshing approach to ‘the traditional studio way’. We do not mix down the project at the end of the session; we mix it down on another day in our own time. We add that body & shine, give you a copy to take away and allow up to 7 days for you to listen to your recording on various systems to decide on any mix changes you may like to make. We then make these changes free of charge one evening with you there, calling the shots.
We know how important your music is, that you will want to play it to everyone and may sell 100’s of copies, so we take just as much pride in it as you do. After all it is likely to be printed on the CD where it was recorded, so it is just as much in our interest for it to sound awesome as it is yours! These methods work well for us; we have many clients who come back again & again, and have many referrals.
How can we make minor changes to your mix 1 week later after we have worked on another 10-12 songs since? Well, our high-end professional equipment allows us to store all the edits, volume envelopes, pan, mute & fader automation, effects settings etc… Our mixing desk has total recall & ‘flying faders’. Its fun just to watch it working wonders! The flexibility allows us to perform the most complex of audio moves that wouldn’t be possible on a standard mixer even with 100 fingers!
Mastering is quite simply the process of optimising the sound quality. The mastering process has several stages of audio manipulation; it adds body, clarity & shine to the mix making the project a commercial standard of sound.
We offer to master our clients’ projects as part of the package. However, should you wish to have your project mastered elsewhere we will gladly provide your chosen mastering house with an un-mastered ‘CD24’ format disk, making it the highest 24-Bit / 96Khz format for the mastering process.
Remember, when we quote for your project, we do not have any hidden costs (such as mix down & mastering). Your time you book is for recording your songs, we do not have to allow hours at the end of your booked time to rush your mix, what we recommend & quote you is for a FINISHED PRODUCT.
Browse the website, explore the photos of the Studios, read the comments our clients have made and come down and check us out. You'll be back time after time!
