Saturday, 5th April 2008 : It's been a while!

It's been a few months since our last update.

Over the last quarter or so we have worked on around 40 band & artists projects. An amazing amount of repeat clients with a nice selection of new talent, such as:

Natasha Davis (solo singer)
Mandy Baker (Album Project)
Stuart Ritchings (3 sessions - Singer Songwriter)
Joe Cusmano (Singer Songwriter)
Andrew Tween (solo singer)
Pheromone (Band EP)
Sophie Grimes (solo singer)
Another Dead Hero (Live Band EP)
Was 3000 (Live Band EP)
The Jingle Belles (girl band)
Bob Daisley (Album - solo artist)
Jacqui Ainsley (solo singer)
Natasha Tombs (solo singer)
Ye-Crap (Band EP)
Monday Arms (Band EP)
Lunar Pilots (2 sessions - Single Recording plus Live Band EP)
Closure (Live Band EP)
Steve Mansfield (2 sessions - Singer Songwriter)
Amy Taylor (solo singer)
Spanners Don't Jam (Live Band EP)
The Doll Set Tones (Band EP)
Blow (Live Band EP)
Bug (Live Band EP)
Monkey Moped (Live Band EP)
Lindsay Joslin (solo singer)
Rob Lewis Jones (Band Project)
3s a Crowd (Piano, Bass/Vocals duet)

It's becoming increasingly obvious that bands are wanting powerful live feel EP's. We've cracked the formula on that one & bands are coming in screaming for a live band recording. This enables the bands to actually say 'this is what we sound like!' to venues & labels in a quality way with an impact! In the past live recordings in some studios have shown to be somewhat inferior in sound quality, but not here at Stag, we have put many samples on our 'Sessions page' of the high standard we can achieve for the musically tight bands, check them out. Averagely a band can record & finish 3 songs in a single 6 hour day to the standard you can hear for yourself right here on this website! Just click on the Sessions button over on the left!

Until next time...

Thursday, 24th August 2006 : August News Update

Welcome to the August random news update!

Since upgrading to our awesome DXB & getting a control room make-over we thought we go that extra step & upgrade our core system. We have decided to change our side system software to Nuendo, which the DXB will control seamlessly via the MIDI layer on the DXB, allowing us to control & mix well over 100 audio tracks if required. To improve our system capability for the high track count we have purchased a super spec dual-core Carillon audio system.

Some of the excellent bands we have worked with over the last couple of months include Cold Lazarus, Mr Happy Chainsaw, The Creyola Theif Genius, Laydee Rose, Bound by Affliction, Chunky Ate a Bee, The Devil in You, Tranceathon, The Lauries, The Drafts, Pheromone & Straight Six.

Talented solo Artist include Peter Vickerage, Dave Riglin, Megan Juniper, James Hearne, Luke Girling, Steve Adams, Anita Wood, Claire Thomas & Andrew Page.

We also now have a dedicated setup for Live Band Recordings as it is becoming very popular indeed. The new setup includes our Mackie D8B linked into Studio 5 for an excellent live sound. Look out for the new website where all the details will be posted including prices & deals.
A Live Recording Demo of your band is an excellent way to work on new material, not to mention a great extra CD for venues & labels to support the professional recordings you do here in our main studio.

We would like take this opportunity to introduce & welcome our new member Wes Steed. Wes has a vast experience in many areas of the business including guitar manufacture and setup. We are confident he will make a valuable addition to the team.

Until next time!

Saturday, 1st April 2006 : Feel the noise!

Over the last couple of months we have worked with many bands including ‘Stalker’, ‘Trash Munroe’, ‘Red October’, ‘Torn Asunder’, ‘A Third Wish’, ‘Collision Theory’, ‘Bug’, ‘VX’, ‘The Void’, ‘Wrecked 45’, ‘Crazy 88’, ‘Liberty’, ‘Exigent’, ‘Indigo Streak’ and ‘Slade’, yes SLADE also came in to re-record one of their old hits for TV air play!

Also we have worked with solo artists ‘Holly Julier’, ‘Stuart Bulley’, ‘Rhea Gathercole’ ‘Stuart Richings’, ‘Ben Konstantinovic’, ‘Michael Hinch’, ‘Darren Griffiths’, ‘Joseph Eley’, ‘Gary Birling’ and we did some voice recordings for ‘GP Service’.

Somehow we also managed to squeeze in a 2 week shutdown of the recording studio in February to fit our new main production console, a Mackie DXB – The digital production console of the future! Lots of other new gear has also been added, including a Focusrite green microphone pre-amp, a new Neumann TLM-103 Vocal microphone, a new Sennheisser MD421 Instrument microphone to add to our collection & new Omnirax studio furniture to house the console, monitors & the rack equipment in an ergonomic, efficient & stylish manner.

The new DXB’s sound quality is amazing. It is the choice of many industry professionals & has the sonic qualities of the high end production consoles used by the best studios in the world. The routing capabilities are amazing & all accessible from the dual 15” touch screens. On its own is capable of what both our D8B’s could do! You can be confident of our commitment to giving our clients the best possible results.

Although it was a sad moment to see our D8B put to one side, the new desk was an essential move to ensure our product quality is second to none. The D8B is to be connected up to Studio 5 for full live recordings where we know it will do a good job.

So, we now have to get more photos taken & update the website as the new control room setup now looks totally different & exiting!

New photo’s coming soon…..

Saturday, 24th December 2005 : December Update.

We’ve been really busy the last couple of months, we have been working with some excellent bands, talented singers & some great session players as well as making plans for new developments. It’s been hectic but fun!

We have worked with ‘Anger is a gift’ recording material for the compilation ‘Best of the Best’ released on Chromium Records. ‘Anger is a gift’ also got a progressive deal with E3 Records. They recorded a live demo to send off to the label, a song was chosen for the single & they came back in to spend time recording the chosen song in November for release in January 2006.

‘Rapier’ also used a song from their previous recording with us which has been released on the Chromium Records compilation ‘Musical Heroes’. ‘Rapier’ also got a progressive deal with E3. They spent good time working with us in December recording their single for release in January 2006.

Singer/Songwriter ‘David Trevor Royall’ chose us to record his 14 Song Album. ‘Paul Da Vinci’ – (original voice for the 1974 hit 'Sugar Baby Love' by the ‘Rubettes’) did an excellent job producing the album which involved session musicians including ‘Al Vosper’ & ‘Gary Moberly’ both have played for top selling artists. Rather than us list their biographies do a search on Google for them, highly recommended session players.

‘Jailbird’ a 4-piece local rock band recorded their 3 track demo in November.
Punk band ‘Mr Happy Chainsaw’ recorded a 5 track EP with us in November.
The band ‘Kes’ recorded a 4 track EP with us in December.
The band ‘Franco’s’ Recorded their 3 Track EP with us in December.

Chris Andrews came back in to do some more recording & we’ve done some more work for Suzi Quatro.

We had fun working with solo artists Norman Blake, Jim Conway, Holly Julier, Gemma & Leigh.

We are also currently working with the band ‘Delphini’ on their Album, which will be finished in Jan 2006.

We will be adding some new audio samples very soon.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

Tuesday, 16th August 2005 : Studio 5 Open!

Studio 5 opened today! The opening had been delayed slightly due to some very exiting expansion work on our control room/lounge, but now it’s all complete & looking very impressive indeed.

We now have a new comfort lounge for recording clients installed just outside the control room, complete with a sofa & plenty of space. Very soon this lounge will have a projector which will project a ‘live feed’ video image of a prime view of the control room onto the rear wall so you can hang around, chat, practice your riffs & have a laugh whilst not missing a second of the session.

We’ll update the site soon with some photos of the new area also the new control room photos.

We’ve also had a great time working with all the bands & artists over the last few weeks, including bands ‘The White Gospel’, ‘Chris Andrews’, ‘Def Star’, ‘The Culprits’, Halo Ego Trip’ & ‘DV8’ . We have also worked with vocalists/solo artists ‘Kate Davis’, ‘Suzi Quatro’, ‘Jim Conway’, ‘Norman Blake’ & ‘Scott Kimble’, not forgetting the project for ‘Praise Vessels’ a Nigerian Gospel band.

We would also like to apologise for our forum being down so long, unfortunately the old forum was hacked & all the posts were deleted. So, the forum button now links to our new forum, please feel free to use it.

Until next time….

Tuesday, 21st June 2005 : Germany calling......

We are proud to announce that we have been chosen to record, mix and master Chris Andrews’ latest rock & roll album for release. Chris invited several top musicians to perform on this album including Lenny Tucky on Guitar & Suzi Quattro on Bass. One of our ‘pre mixes’ of this project was used on German National TV recently during an interview with Chris.

We have also been working on recording projects with bands ‘Cooper’, ‘Quiet Child’, ‘The Accidental’ & ‘Zen Republic’ and with solo artists ‘Steve Potts’, ‘Kate Davis’ & ‘Ade’.

Studio 5 is almost complete; a 3000W Mackie PA system is to be installed allowing bands to practice in a gig scenario and put instruments & drums through the PA.
The PA will be capable of 150dB SPL and would blow away the average venue; therefore we do insist that the volume to be kept at a safe level & ear protection is to be used for your own safety.

We plan to complete all our expansion developments by the end of 2005.

Until next time...

Monday, 16th May 2005 : Stag Studios newest arrival!

We have been extremely busy over the last few months continuing with our expansion projects on the new studio, equipment installation and adding a second floor to raise the office area upstairs.

Studio 5 is close to completion having approximately 3 weeks to go before the largest of all our studios is open to the public. The planned installation of a 16 channel mixing desk & 2.6KW powered PA system means it’ll be plenty loud enough!

Studio 2 is having another upgrade. Recently we had our new climate control air-conditioning system installed which means extra comfort during sessions in the hot summer months & controlled warmth in the winter period.

Studio equipment is on the increase. We have bought a range of new Audix DP microphones giving more selection to our already sizeable microphone selection. We have also purchased a new Roland TD-8 Electric Drum Kit, which we can patch in to our expansive midi-drum library for extra sounds, or simply of course use it as an excellent sounding drum kit.

Not forgetting the addition of our SECOND D8B! We find our current D8B helps us make our clients sound so good, we thought we’d add another to ensure the more experimental & demanding clients will not run out of quality channels.

We are improving the Stag Studios repertoire as the number of commercial projects we are undertaking is increasing and we are working towards the future of ‘multi-room recordings’. This means for example we can record a full orchestra LIVE, separating the orchestral sections in our other studios using PA monitoring, multi-loom feeds & even video monitoring.

We would also like to announce the welcome arrival of our newest team member Toby Wyss. Toby is proving to be an asset to the Company and is already a well-known face here at Stag Studios. He has been a musician/drummer since his school days & knows his stuff.

Until the next update.

See you soon.

Monday, 14th March 2005 : From The Horses' Mouth!

We have received a few emails recently informing us of occasional technical problems with viewing our forums. We understand that you would like to see what our clients have to say about us. You can go directly to our Forum & view first hand, but in the event you cannot access it here are a few snippets of what our clients have said about us :-

The recording experience at Stag is fantastic. We went into our two-day recording session with Stag having previously completed two recordings at another local recording venue. While we were happy with the previous recording upon entering Stag, having heard the result of our latest venture, there is little comparison. Sure, we have written better songs and have probably developed as musicians but the technical infrastructure available at Stag and Steve's help and guidance are excellent.
Mike Moorecroft (Glider)

Some highlights of the recording were:
- capturing the sound of the acoustic...it has never sounded so good!
- Steve's help and encouragement. We found him easy to work with and his recording process very efficient. In addition, his flexible attitude was great. When we wanted to try a couple of ideas late in the recording process, he was happy to help.
the efficiency of Steve's recording process. We were very impressed.
- the technology employed in the studio...the Mackie board is a serious piece of kit...no idea what it all does but it works!
- the vocals...captured them really well and they fill the mix which is exactly what we wanted.
- the end product...we are extremely happy with our four songs and we will definately be going back to record again.
(Glider)

The guy is a top class legend, it's not often that you find a guy that not only kicks serious ass at his job but also is a nice guy. Helped us all stayed chilled and relaxed while getting the best quality stuff out of us. Stag Studios is an awesome price, an awesome quality and a good atmosphere. We will be back again this year at least Once or Twice more to record some more E.P's
AJ (Anger is a gift)

We had our first recording session at Stag in November 2004, and it was absolutely brilliant. Steve made the whole process easy, and produces a fantastic sound. (Appropriate Agent)

Hi thanks to steve for recording our new ep it sounds the bollox! The recording experience was absolutely excellent and so is the quality we shall be coming back again! Chris (Skratch)

Cheers Steve. you've done it again. i first came to Stag Studios about a year ago and i could tell Steve was a good producer. he is constantly adding to his knowledge and equipment and now i'm convinced he's an amazing producer. i intend to visit many more times! Stuart Denney (singer/songwriter)

I've recorded in 5 or 6 studios with various bands and this was easily the most impressive experience in terms of equipment and attitude, no waiting around for 2 hours at the start while and engineer fiddles with equipment to make it work, it was a question of straight in and on with it! Yan (Cuban Heel Bassist)

Wednesday, 17th November 2004 : Radio 1 Airplay.

Sunday, 26th September 2004 : Forum back on line

The forum problem has been rectified, all original posts have been restored back to the standard 1 year pruning. We appreciate your patience.

Thanks

Stag Studios

Friday, 24th September 2004 : Forum offline at the moment, apologies

Due to an external problem with the forum, which we are working on getting resolved right now, the Stag Studios forum appears to be up the creek without a paddle. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused, and check back here soon to see if it has been fixed yet!

Saturday, 7th August 2004 : Studio 4!

Studio 4 opened it's doors this Monday (2nd August 2004), giving us another room to offer to the serious musicians who are looking for the great sounding, inspiring studio to rehearse in.

We take pride in the acoustic isolation we have made between all our studios & the outside world. We believe it is essential to be isolated from outside interferences & noise to be able to sink into that creative mood, and that includes hearing the band in the studio next to the one you are in, playing at 120dB!

As soon as you close the doors in any one of our studios you will be able to relax & be creative, there may be a def-metal band in the room next to you only a few feet away but you'll still think your the only band in! Allowing you to get on with YOUR music.

We welcome you.

Friday, 9th July 2004 : Studio 4 update!

It's been a while, we have been ultra busy lately, over the past few weeks Studio 4 has come on nicely.
We are down to the final layers of sound insulation & really now have only the doors & cosmetics to finish, estimating 2 weeks, so hopefully those of you who have been waiting for a regular weekly slot can start to secure those days very soon.

Also look out for our new service for our regular clients - 'LIVE' Recordings, we will record your rehearsal to give you the live sound of a professional stage environment for a low low price, please ask.

Monday, 23rd February 2004 : MORE???!!!!!!????

More what? Studios? Of course!

Due to the demand of our rehearsal studios we must keep on building! Work starts on Studio 4 at the end of March 2004, Studio 5 will follow not too much longer afterwards along with an extra live area/drum room for recording.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients for their custom, support & respect for Stag Studios & you can be assured we will continue to maintain the high standards you have come to expect from us.

Wednesday, 18th February 2004 : Additional digital recording system

Yup, we have gone for Digi-designs Pro-Tools, fed by a superpower, supersilent Carillon dedicated audio PC running the Digi-002 control surface with 'flying faders' just like the already awesome D8B we have.

This new system will be available from June 2004 to those who want to have their projects mixed & edited in Pro-Tools, please call for price structure with Pro-Tools.

This modification comes with the new look control room, more space, more gear, a new 3 seater sofa to chill out on & a permanent setup of our Novation KS-5 synth Midi connected to a huge multitude of sounds from our Carillon running digi-design Reason & Samplitude sofware sequencers.

Not forgetting our new highly flexible website design & construction by 'Anti-Trend Designs' - Graphics by Dave Haddington, Coding by Rob Lord. (Contact roblord_ish@hotmail.com or thedesigncat@hotmail.com for an awesome website).

Sunday, 21st December 2003 : The next Studio progress & some more equipment!

Studio 3 is complete!!! It looks smart, sounds wicked & is huge, kitted out with a Mackie DFX-12 Mixer, JTS Mics & the awesome Mackie SRM450's as standard. Also fitted is climate control air conditioning to ensure comfort, we will be posting some photos on the next update.

We are now taking bookings for 2004, get in quick, there aren't many weekday evening slots free already!

We decided to upgrade our mastering & CD Master burning setup. We have now purchased a Masterlink ML-9600 2-Track Mastering Recorder & 'Red Book' CD burner. Finally we have a dedicated fully integrated higher spec studio & can get the computer out of the audio link & use it for its designed purpose.... documenting, printing, surfing & gaming! PC CD burners are not reliable enough for CD masters, it was only a matter of time before we realised this.

Wednesday, 8th October 2003 : The next Studios!

The builders are in today to start work on dividing up the new space for our expansion. Work should start within the next week or two on Studio 3 so by the end of January 2004 we should have it up & running so those bands that have been waiting for cancellation slots while we have been fully booked up can relax a little more now.

Tuesday, 15th July 2003 : The Mag arrived yesterday & the article is superb

Well, Julys edition of Pro Sound News arrived today & the article is superb. A couple of mis-quotes, but hey, thats journalism for you! Either way all that was said was very good indeed.
